It’s been two years since I’ve blogged a wedding. While that fact is not indicative of the amount of celebrations we’ve been documenting as wedding photographers, it does tell a story of how little “extra” bandwidth I’ve had over the last couples years. Paul and I are excited to share all about our new homestead adventures soon, but for now, Colleen and Daniel’s wedding day at the Brown Hotel absolutely deserves a permanent home on the website!

We have the privilege of walking with people throughout one of the best days of their lives. That incredible honor is not lost on me as we document a wedding day. For us, that means we see both the best and occasionally the worst in people. You never know what high stress will do to someone until that moment arrives; I’ve held mamas who have had breakdowns and I’ve recreated floral bouquets when they’ve been frozen overnight (maybe I should do a blog about wedding mishaps sometimes?!) but I can say with absolutely certainty, this was one of the most joy filled days without an ounce of negativity! These families embraced each moment with so much care, thoughtfulness and joy. They created margin to rest and be in the moment with each other and that truly came through in how relaxed and present they were.

The Brown Hotel, in Louisville Kentucky, is one of our favorite venues for so many reasons. From getting ready to rooftop sunset hours, and all the fun celebrating in the Crystal Ballroom Paul and I hope you enjoy reliving this day as much as we do. Colleen and Daniel. Thank you! Thank you for your enthusiasm, your trust, your commitment to each other and your authenticity. It came through in every interaction I witnessed throughout the day and truly radiates in all that you do. I pray your marriage brings generations of that kind of peace and joy.

I say this all the time, but first looks are my absolute favorite moment of the day! As wedding photographers and videographers, we have seen it all. There is nothing like having 30 minutes to just hold your beloved on your wedding day. You get to say everything you are feeling and thinking, embrace each other and just press pause on the hustle and bustle of the day. Their nerves calmed the moment they got to hug, and it’s such a beautiful thing to step back and be able to witness!
